Heartfelt thanks and eternal gratitude to you and your web site for the
information which allowed me to save my sweet little "Fudge"! We have a
litter of Chocolate Lab pups, now five weeks old. At nearly four
weeks old, "Fudge" was unable to stand, let alone walk. He
was a 'swimmer' puppy. I had heard about the condition, but had never
seen it before. Most sources of information were pretty grim, advising
that he would die shortly or have to be put down. These were not
acceptable choices for me, and my vet wasn't able to offer any options,
so I got online and searched. Thank God for your positive encouragement!
I didn't think to take photos of "Fudge" before beginning to work with
him, and as you can see from the attachments, I didn't use the 'sock' method
described on your site, but rather adapted it by using a cut-up old rib-knit
t-shirt and foam pieces. I also noticed while transporting him to
the vet in a basket that the size and shape of the basket forced him to
lay on his side and use his front legs when turning over, so I used the
basket every day - a sort of 'hobble by basket' technique that seemed to
help strengthen his little legs. On Wednesday, August 3, 2005 I put "Fudge"
in his 'rig' for the first time. On Sunday, August 7, 2005 he took
his first steps. Yesterday, August 12, 2005, I tried to photograph
him walking, but it wasn't easy! All he really wanted to do was RUN!
He is a beautiful and sweet baby who can now have a happy, healthy life.
I wanted you to know how much that means to me, and how much a part of
it you were via your web site. Sincerely, Gail Hicks |
