Hi Connie,
I am so sorry I just got this to answer you.
Do you have enough cotton under him and around the legs?
It will take a while for the front legs to work right but it is a start.
The thing is to keep him off his chest. Can you get him to nurse on his
side?
You can try to use gauze wrapped on the legs but not very tight or
to much together. I have not used this method.

Hi Coreen;
Thank you so much for caring enough to answer my email.
Yesterday was a good day! Uno(name I gave him, since he is the only
pup in this litter)got up on all four's yesterday. Still VERY wobbly
but seems to be gaining strenght in his arms and leggs. What I have
also done is put him in a 3X3 ft. box and I placed these long socks that
I filled up with pebbles.I placed them in the box at different angles so
this does not him him a chance to lay flat on his stomach. I also let the
mom away from him for long periods of time(so he can trim down a bit!)(he
was such a porky!
Believe me Coreen, I was ready to take him to the vet. on Tues. to
put him to sleep, then I noticed that he was starting to put his back leggs
under him and this is what stopped me.
Uno had a sister, put she was SO small at birth and she was not gaining
any weight(I even tried to bottle feed her)She would latch on for a second
and let go. I believe that she must of had something going on inside, maybe
not developed, she did not make it.
I will keep you posted with UNO's progress if this is OK with you?
Again thank you so much for caring enough to answer me.

Hello Coreen;Thanks again for your
help! These are pic's of Uno. He will be four weeks old this Tuesday.
He is beginning to stand (still wobbly)But hopefuly with time his leggs
will become stronger. This what I use to put around his chest.(It is a
knee support that I buy from dollarama and I just cut it down and put two
holes close together for his arms.)I also find that the cotton balls become
flat too fast some I also use makeup sponges to insert around his belly.
Do I keep the support on All the time, because I take it off during the
day and put it on him at night. Is this right? Please any other idea to
help make his leggs stringer would be greatly appreciated.Much thanks again
Connie P.
Hi Connie,
I would leave it on all the time, so when he lays down he will lay
on his side.
I would love to be able to use his pictures to show another way to
help the puppies. What a great idea.
What kind of puppy is Uno?

I am a breeder of Spinone Italiano. Again this is the first time I
have ever had this problem since she only had one pup, which leads
be
to believe that this case was not genitic. His mom had plenty of milk
and Uno was big. He just got REAL comfortable laying on his stomach
with his leggs spread out in back of him. I think this is how he got
the flat chest.
The knee brace I bought from the dollar store. I first started out
with the one for the wrist and then the elbow and worked my way to
the
knee size as he got bigger. Again I used make-up sponges which
holds up longer and keeps their shape better.
Please feel free to use the pictures, if I could help someone else
with the same problem, it would make me very happy as a breeder.

p.s. Will his flat chest fill out with time?

Connie,
The chest will come down. Ella is also a Spinone and she did just fine.
Do you have a web page? If so, do you want a link to it?
